Resolution Urging the Use of Sound Scientific Data

WHEREAS: high quality public policy is a goal of SARL; and

WHEREAS: agriculture, natural resources and rural lawmakers are the gate keepers to sound policy leading to good legislation supporting abundant food, fiber and energy production, coupled with protection of human health and the environment; and

WHEREAS: the Federal Government and the Obama administration recognize that high quality data is critical to develop sound public policy and effective regulations; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that State Agriculture and Rural Leaders promotes the use of sound scientific peer reviewed research and data that is produced under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in hearings and testimony; and 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that state officials with an interest in agriculture and vibrant rural communities seek out credible data when considering and enacting legislation that affects the producers of food, fiber and fuel and the communities in which they live; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: leaders of agriculture and rural development committees in state legislatures encourage the state agencies for which they have oversight or funding responsibility, abide by the same principles in the use of quality, sound scientific data in the regulatory agencies; and  

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that a copy of this resolution be sent to the agriculture committees of the state and provincial legislatures.
