Welcoming Remarks and Regional Dinners

2017 Ag Chairs Summit

Regional Dinners: four regional dinners, based on Council of State Government regions. Each dinner will have regional ag economist in them to moderate a post dinner discussion on the economic status of ag and rural in each region.

Scott Brown is an assistant extension professor in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Missouri and the state extension agricultural economist for the University of Missouri extension. Dr. Brown has worked with the U.S. [node:read-more:link]

James Dunn

Professor
Pennsylvania State University

James W. Dunn is a professor of  agricultural economics at Pennsylvania State University. He teaches about the economics of  the food system and marketing decisions. He is also the undergraduate coordinator for the Agribusiness Management Program. Dr. Dunn grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He earned his Ph.D. in agricultural economics at Oklahoma State University; his previous degrees are from South Dakota State University. Dr. [node:read-more:link]

John Lawrence

Associate Dean and Ag Director
Iowa State University

Since 2010, John Lawrence has  served as associate dean for extension in Iowa State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and as director for agriculture and natural resources for  Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Lawrence also serves as director of the Iowa Nutrient Research Center. He was a leader in collaborative efforts to develop Iowa’s Nutrient Reduction Strategy. [node:read-more:link]

Mechel Paggi

retired Director of the Center for Agricultural Business
California State University, Fresno

Prior to his position at California State University, Mechel Paggi held positions in Washington, D.C., as principal analyst for agriculture at the Congressional Budget Office and served as the executive director of the congressionally mandated  Commission  on 21st Century Agriculture. From 1995 to 1998, Dr. Paggi served as senior economist at the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations in Rome, Italy. From 1988 to 1995, Dr. [node:read-more:link]
